Painted up four Warfare Miniatures castings yesterday...
Irish Foot Guards, Lord Grand Prior, Montcashel's, and Dillon Regiments. I particularly like the 'at rest' musketeer... very nice model. These paint well, though as I mentioned the details are a bit fine. I just resorted to a finer brush than normal and had no trouble after that!
Nice figures and very nicely painted.
ReplyDeleteVery nicely painted. Those figures look pretty decent to.
ReplyDeleteI'd like to see a step by step for these guys. They look like great figs for a host of conflicts during the last 25 years or so of the 17th century.
ReplyDeleteI'm doing a step by step for inclusion in Beneath the Lily Banners so I probably shouldn't post one here with these minis, but I'll be working on some more 40mm ACW and my Warhammer Empire figures over the next few weeks, and I'll try to include some more detailed posts on my painting methods.
ReplyDeleteClarence, how would these figures compare with Copplestone's figures of the same era? Thanks...
ReplyDeleteHi, I!
ReplyDeleteSadly I do not own any of the Copplestone Grand Alliance minis. I grabbed a couple of Copplestone's Darkest Africa minis from my cabinet and, assuming the Empire of the Sun minis are sculpted on the same scale, height-wise they should be great. Looking at the photos on Mark's site, his minis look a little heftier in general.
Mark's models look easier to paint, too. The Warfare Miniatures tend toward fine detail in an effort at realism - more like painting a new Perry than a classic Foundry. Not that I found Warfare hard to paint, I just found myself reaching for brushes a step or two finer than I normally use.
As far as mixing the two, I really couldn't say without having a few on hand. Maybe someone who has some and some of the others from my comparison photo a few posts back might comment?
I have some of Copplestone's Sun King range and they are taller and quite a bit leaner than Front Rank and a full head taller than Old Glory's WSS figs. They might be okay on the same table but probably not in the same unit with the Warfare minis, assuming you want a very regular look of course.
ReplyDeleteNice looking minis! Nice painting, too.
