Cropredy Bridge, Parlimentarian Dragoons and Artillery

Continuing the ECW posts, we'll start off with Waller's Dragoons...

To properly represent them as dismounted, there should be two mounted squadrons. I usually field the mounted squadron and use the foot troops as commanded shot.

Finally for Waller's army, I have two cannons and a stand of artillery train guard. In Victory Without Quarter (my free rules in case readers don't know), you can have an artillery train guard deployed with your guns. They give some small measure of protection with the ability to stand and fire at chargers - not a huge defense, but better than nothing!

These models will work as easily for Royalists as Roundheads (as will most ECW units with a quick flag swap)!

Beyond the Gates of Antares

Ok, I need ANOTHER game like I need a hole in the head, but I have resisted as long as I can.

I have been watching the development of this game since the beginning (and was a member of the failed Kickstarter). I really like the Bolt Action WW2 rules and the core of Antares is very similar. The aesthetics of the universe is shaping up as well. After rereading the Beta Test PDF (available free PDF here), the rule expansions for vehicles/etc., and the play tests (all on the Warlord website), I decided to give in an order ONE starter army.

No, I mean it!

I ordered the Boromite Labour Guild starter army, but I am really not going to buy anything else until I manage to paint the entire set.

Seriously!

See, I have the tendency to get out of hand with my hobby. What I really wanted to do was order one of every model kit released so far - I think the entire range would only run around $500. But, no. I picked the Boromites because they are very different from everything else I own. I even like the 'official' colors and will will probably paint them in a similar manner to the pic above. When I get all of these painted (and no guarantees it will even be this year depending on what else I get into), I will buy a second starter army - probably Concord unless they've gotten around to releasing the Freeborn (expanded to a full army according to Rick's latest article). Only after I have two PAINTED starter armies and had a chance to actually play some games so I see what I want to add will I think about expanding the collection.

Dongan's Dragoons

Here's my second regiment of dismounted dragoons (posted a while back on the LoA blog, but thought I'd put it here for completeness)...

I realized while cleaning up that one of the little buggers is camera shy. There are actually ten models in this unit! Later this year Warfare will release mounted dragoons and horse holder sets and I will revisit both of my dragoon units to add mounted versions. I think I am going to mount them individually as well and just add squadron movement trays so I can use them for Donnybrook.

Cropredy Bridge, Parlimentarian Horse

Turning next to the horse, My Parlimentarian horse consists of seven squadrons of horse organized into three regiments and two squadrons of cuirassiers (Heselrigge's Lobsters). The unit featured in the foreground in the first two photos below is Colonel Jonas Vandruske's Regiment (with the man himself leading the way). The flag is fictional since I couldn't find any record of the standard that unit carried.

This is still the largest collection of cavalry (nine squadrons) I've ever painted for a single project. I'm hoping to equal that with my Jacobite army for the Boyne (1690) when I get around to painting them! Next week, dragoons and artillery...

Cropredy Bridge, Parlimentarian Foot

It's been a very long time since I looked at this army - unfortunately a lack of space in my mini cabinets means this army has been (carefully) packed away. Like all of my historical collections, when I started collecting models for the English Civil War, I chose a small battle on which to model my forces. The first army I chose was William Waller's army from the Battle at Cropredy Bridge, the core of which was made up of five battalions of foot.

Crimson Fist Space Marines

These photos were some of the biggest draw from my old website so I thought I'd recycle them here...

These models are currently in my brother's possession. I've added a few models since I took these pics and promised to add a few more to make the list more my brother's style. I'd like to add some more anyway as the Crimson Fists were always one of my favorite Space Marine chapters.

Just a quick note - the old website at www.quindia.com is gone. This weekend I changed hosting groups and decided in the move to not immediately transfer the content. It has been dormant for years as all of my current projects have been featured here and on the other blogs I maintain. I will feature some of the popular articles here and revisit some of old gallery photos as well, but I plan on replacing the site with a new design in the future which incorporates this blog as part of the whole.

Harlequindia!

With the release of the new Harlequin army for 40k, I am planning on painting a small force to ally with my Imperial armies. I have yet to settle on a color scheme for the force, but I made a template to experiment with colors and thought others might find it useful when trying to work out their own Harlequins...
